Greatest Trip to the Grocery Store

I have not ventured to the grocery store with both kids by myself yet and was not in the mood to do it today. So instead, I finally decided to try the online shopping service that our Harris Teeter offers. They had a promotion going this week where they waived the $5 service fee, so I figured, there was really no reason to not try it. I did all my shopping online (even the produce) and set up a time when I could pick it up. Then they called me when my order was ready (3 hours before I had scheduled to pick it up) and said I could come get it any time. All I had to do was pull into their special drive thru lane and they brought my groceries right to my car, loaded them in for me and ran my credit card right at the car. I didn't even have to unbuckle my seatbelt! I was a little wary about them picking my produce, but I am very happy with what they got for me. This was the easiest shopping trip with 2 kids ever! And I didn't get suckered into buying anything I didn't need. I think I will do this more often, even with the $5 service fee. I figure that I would probably still spend less than if I actually went into the store (I'm bad at sticking to just the stuff on my list). I hope other grocery stores start doing this, because it is my new preferred way to do my grocery shopping (unless I can go without the kids, and then I don't mind going into the store). Plus, they also sent me a coupon for $10 off my next $50 or more purchase!

First Beach Trip of the Year

We had a beautiful, unseasonably warm day a few days ago and took advantage by heading out to the beach for a dinner picnic. This beach isn't the nicest, but its only 25 minutes from our house, and it barely has any waves, so its good for kids. Adeline loved playing in the sand and Bobby enjoyed his first time at the beach chillin' with daddy. Gob just loves any chance he can get to be outside lately. Winter has been rough on the poor dog, with 2 kids and Rob usually getting home when its already dark out, not to mention the freezing cold weather, we have not been out walking nearly as much as we used to. One day of warmth was all we needed to remind us of what we have to look forward to in the spring and summer months. We are so excited that when we move this summer that we'll still be close to the beach.

Day Trip to DC

So after living in Virginia for 8 months we finally took a day trip to DC. We chose to go to the zoo and the museum of natural history, assuming those were the 2 things that would keep the kids entertained. Of course, we took tons of pictures. We finished the day at Good Stuff Eatery and had some delicious burgers and fries.

The Big Cats...always fun to see!

We're all staring at the lion here.

Adeline loved watching these snake turtles! After a few minutes of watching them slither through the water, I decided they are pretty creepy.

It was cool watching the orangutans cross these wires. This picture just makes it look nasty.

Here's a better shot.

When I was in kindergarten our class took a field trip to this zoo and we learned all about panda bears and even made panda bear shaped cookies. Pandas have been my favorite animals ever since, so I was excited to see them. It was pretty tricky to get a picture of me with the panda, he just didn't want to stop and pose for us.

If you look closely, you can see the cheetahs in the background of this photo.

It is hard to get a posed shot of Adeline these days. Here are our attempts to get her in front of the great white shark mouth. They get slightly scandalous at the end!

I look forward to coming back to the museums sometime without children so I can actually read about the things that I'm looking at.

Adeline's favorite thing was this rock because she was allowed to touch it and it was right at her height.

Trying to Capture the Smile

Bobby has the cutest little smile, but we have yet to catch it on camera. We were close this time.

This will have to do for now until we can catch the real thing!

Project #1

Adeline got some kitchen toys for Christmas this year and we really wanted to get her a play kitchen to use them in, but we really don't have room for large toys in our house and we really didn't want to spend money on one. So we decided to build her one on our shelves that we already have in the kitchen. It was going to be a Christmas present, but we just finished it last week. It was actually pretty fun putting it all together. We made it from cardboard boxes and a bread box from the thrift store. She loves it. Her favorite things are the oven and "washing her dishes" in the sink. We're trying to train her young!

A work in progress...

Rob's drawer engineering...he's very proud of the design, and it actually works pretty well.

The finished product.

The fridge on the side.

Repurposed bread box next to the fridge.

Stovetop and sink, just like our real one...full of dirty dishes!

Project #2 is inspired by Hannah (and a child who is extremely squirmy in church). I am attempting to make a felt quiet book. Its also pretty fun to make and pictures will be coming eventually (I won't say coming soon because it will probably take me a while to get it finished).

The Happiest Day of Adeline's Life???

Adeline was in the best mood today and I have no idea why! She was laughing and smiling all day long. About half-way through the day I decided I better start taking pictures and documenting how much fun she was having. Once again, she didn't sleep during nap time, but just talked to herself and played for 3 1/2 hours! I went in to lay her down and try to get her to sleep 3 times and every time she just laughed and laughed when she saw me and laughed as I left the room. She's too young to grow out of napping, right??
Here's the silly little grin she was giving me ALL DAY!

She looks so grown up here. She fell off this box twice and it looked painful both times, but she just got back up, smiled at me and climbed back on the box!

Who knew a pile of laundry could entertain a child for so long?

She even had fun eating! (She is still a terrible eater, all we can get her to eat is fruit, peas, chips, crackers, bread, and pasta...no meat, no cheese, nothing very healthy at all!)

Apparently, snack time was really fun today. I still don't know why.

Bobby was not quite as happy as Adeline, but just as cute!

Adeline's happy day ended pretty abruptly the second we put her down for bed. She cried and cried, which she hardly ever does anymore. I guess she just wasn't ready to end her wonderful day. That, or she was so exhausted from not napping that she couldn't calm herself down to go to sleep.
